looks like we only need the UMW police two days a week

  2. Anonymous

Whoever does this reporting needs to compile a more accurate list of occurrences. 2 days is unacceptable.

    Dear Anonymous,
Our news editor, who reports Police Beat, meets with the UMW Police once a week to compile this information. She also receives the Daily Crime Report from the Fredericksburg City Police, and reports on any students involved in those crimes. If you know of crimes that are reported to either the UMW police or the city police that are not found here, please email umwbullet@gmail.com and we will investigate further.
    Thank you,
    Anne Elder

Obviously, she is not doing her job correctly and needs to press for more information. Crimes don’t just occur 2 days out of the week. Either she needs to write an article explaining why the UMW Police will not divulge this information, or needs to improve upon providing up to date, more accurate information. I don’t know of any crimes; I get them all from the Bullet (well, at least “some” of the crimes anyways…) 😉

Oh my god Emily. Why don’t you know everything? What kind of world do we live in when student crimes don’t happen more often? Like, why wasn’t anyone stabbed? You should be ashamed of yourself for not going out and causing more crimes to report on. We’ll talk about this later.

You two are ignorant to crime on this campus.

Oh, that’s right…it’s the Bullet. What a surprise?

  7. Arnold

I agree with Anonymous. UMW is a scary place with countless crimes taking place every day. Just look at the crime report released by the University: obviously crimes are being committed every day!!!!

I miss when the Bullet crime report used to be filled with a dozen complaints about attempted parking decal theft. That was when I knew things were happening.

Do you actually think the school wants to report every crime? Despite the fact the Clery Act requires it, if students don’t know about the crime, and the crime is never published, it can get brushed under the rug.

Did the Bullet ever report the homeless individual who got caught looking through pipes into the female showers in Virginia Hall? I think not. How about the 2 fire alarms that occurred yesterday at Eagle Landing? The 2 medical emergencies on campus? How about the suspicious individual in the Apartments complex? Check your facts, Arnold. 😉 Just because it isn’t published, doesn’t mean it didn’t occur.

  9. Arnold

Fire alarms are a crime? Medical emergencies are a crime?

I’m learning quite a bit here, please teach me more. 😉

A police report reports all policy activity, whether crime related or not. Because the University Police have different jurisdictions and responsibilities than the Fredericksburg Police, you’ll find that most calls for service are not “crimes,” but rather calls for service. I’m not talking about someone being locked out of a building; I’m talking about suspicious persons, calls for assistance for Fredericksburg Police, traffic stops, sexual assaults, verbal and physical disputes, stolen property, suicide attempts and other “emergencies” that are not necessarily crimes. If you think the rape a few years ago was the only sexual assault in the past few years, you’d be ignorant.

I live in Eagle Landing. If the Police Beat actually listed every fire alarm that went off, they’d have no more room for any other news.

  11. Anonymous! You’re giving other non-name people a bad reputation! Let me ruin mine on my own!
