Classics, philosophy and religion professor publishes a book

James Goehring recently published his book “Politics, Monasticism, and Miracles in Sixth Century Upper Egypt: A Critical Edition and Translation of the Coptic Texts on Abraham of Farshut.” In the book, Goehring takes a critical approach to Coptic texts on Abraham of Farshut by examining their literary nature.

 

Psychology professor to serve at Air Force Academy

Chris Kilmartin

Christopher Kilmartin has been appointed to be a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the United States Air Force Academy from July 2013 to June 2014. He will teach courses in violence prevention and gender studies.

 

Professor of education publishes book

Associate Professor of education Teresa Coffman published her book, “Using Inquiry in the Classroom: Developing Creative Thinkers and Information Literate Students.” The book focuses on integrating technology into a classroom setting and using said technology to develop critical thinkers.

 

Professor emeritus appears on talk show

William Crawley, Jr., professor emeritus of history and author of “The University of Mary Washington: A Centennial History,” appeared on WFVA’s talk show “Community Link” this past Sunday. The interview is available on WFVA’s website.

 

Writing Center director and pupil receive two awards

Dr. Gwendolyn Hale and UMW junior Ethan Bottone received the Southeastern Writing Center Association’s Christine Cozzens Research Grant and Initiative Award. The accolades are due to “Virginia is for Writers,” a project which is designed to combine many high school and university writing center collaborations throughout the state.

 

Political science professor co-authors chapter

Stephen Farnsworth, who doubles as the director of the university’s Center for Leadership and Media Studies, co-authored a book chapter from “Mass Media and Policymaking,” published in the Routledge Handbook of Public Policy.

 

Professors collaborate on textbook

Robert McConnell published a textbook entitled “Environmental Issues–Looking Towards a Sustainable Future, 4th edition,” in December 2012. The collaboration is co-authored with Daniel Abel of Coastal Carolina University.
