University of Mary Washington English Professor Benjamin LaBreche received another fellowship to support one month of research at the Clark Library on John Milton’s conception of liberty, 17th century natural law and debates in modern political theory.

The Short Term Fellowship is from the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library at the University of California in Los Angeles, Calif.

LaBreche is excited about the opportunity the fellowship has given him.

“I greatly appreciate the generous support both of these rare books libraries themselves and of my colleagues here at Mary Washington,” said LaBreche. “I am also looking forward to spending some time back in my native Southern California.”

This is one of multiple fellowships LaBreche was awarded this year.  He was also the recipient of the year-long Solsmen Fellowship for 2013-2014, and fellowships from the Folger Shakespeare Library and the Harry Ransom Center, where he will work during the summer of 2014.

“Professor LaBreche’s string of fellowships is wonderful and a testimony to the importance of his on-going research,” said Dr. Gary Richards, English department chair.

“The sacrifice, of course, is his time in the classroom, but his teaching is inevitably enriched by this scholarship,” said Richards.

LaBreche will leave UMW in June of 2013 through August of 2014.

Junior English major John Bellows said he appreciated having LaBreche as a professor.

“Professor LaBreche is an inspirational teacher and helped me grow personally through my academics,” said Bellows.
