This nut butter is not just for Paleo eaters and hippies, but also for anyone looking to create a healthier lifestyle through their eating habits and enjoy unique, delicious flavors.

Almond butter is made in a similar fashion to peanut butter, the nuts are crushed or ground and turned into a paste both butters have similar nutritional makeups, but almond butter is generally less processed and contains lower amounts of salt and sugar, both of which can lead to health problems.

Although similar in taste and texture to peanut butter, almond butter contains more vitamins and minerals. Almonds are great sources of protein, monounsaturated fats and fiber.

Almond butter also provides more omega 3 fatty acids (which promote heart health!) as well as vitamin E, an antioxidant, than peanut butter.

Nuts are a fatty food, but they are full of what is commonly called “healthy” fats. These necessary fats can help maintain blood pressure levels.

Additionally, tablespoon of almond butter contains as much protein as an ounce of meat, providing a great alternative for vegetarians and vegans.

For the curious eater try adding almond butter to oatmeal, on celery sticks or making no bake cookies for a healthy dessert alternative.  Almond butter can be used as a substitute for almost any recipe that calls for peanut butter.

If you are interested in trying almond butter, you can find it at almost any leading grocery store, and although it’s a little pricier than peanut butter the health benefits are worth it.

With today’s health market on the rise there is a wide variety brands offered. From Naturally Woodstock to MaraNatha, you can find a wide variety of brands to pick and choose from.

If you are adventurous in the kitchen, try making your own butter! All you need are almonds, honey, salt and a food processor. (And if you are feeling add some cocoa to your mix.)

Though it may seem like an insignificant change, these changes can lead to making better decisions at every meal and keep you healthy while still being able to enjoy tasty treats.
