This past weekend the University of Mary Washington celebrated the Chinese New Year with the community of Fredericksburg. There was a big turn out with people from a variety of backgrounds and a plethora of Chinese food from restaurants, as well as food made by locals that attended the event. Having a large turnout was a big deal because of how small the Chinese community is in the Fredericksburg area.

Say goodbye to October by immersing yourself in Asian literature, art and language as it is taking over the University of Mary Washington this weekend, beginning Sunday Oct. 25. As part of the annual Asian Cultural Celebration, the University is to host events ranging from dance classes, art classes and historical lectures in order to promote an educational way of celebrating Asian-American culture.
Don’t expect to find a belly dancer at this year’s bhangra dance. Instead, a competitive dance-off between four local university bhangra dance teams will replace the belly dancers that were once a staple of the International Living Center’s …
