UMW field hockey’s season ends after a hard fought battle against CNU

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team fell short on Nov. 1 as they lost 1-0 against Christopher Newport University in the CAC semifinal game. UMW (11-8) knew the challenge they were up against when they were set to face CNU (16-1). Losing to the fifth-ranked Captains 4-3 in regular season, the Eagles were a decided underdog in the matchup. UMW women’s volleyball team holds their heads high after disappointing loss

On Nov. 4 UMW women’s volleyball completed their impressive 2017 season. After losing many senior leaders and players in the offseason, many did not know what to expect this year. With so many changes to the rotation, it was unclear what this new team would accomplish and if they could handle the pressure and expectations placed upon them from the previous season. Now that the season is over, it is safe to say that UMW volleyball still has the fire and grit of last year, even with the changes. The team ended their season with a 19-10 record and a conference championship appearance.Read More

UMW golf finishes inaugural season on high note

On Oct. 24, 2014, the University of Mary Washington announced it would be welcoming a new program to the UMW athletics team. That program addition was the men’s golf team, coached by former men’s basketball coach, Rod Wood. Wood had led the UMW men’s basketball program to the Elite 8 of the NCAA tournament in his final season as the head of the program. He served as the head golf coach at Robert E. Lee High School where he led them to two conference championships.Read More

Admission rates reach over 80 percent as competition grows

Admission rates for the current academic year were higher than 2012-13. Last years numbers were at 77 percent for in-state students and 80 percent for out-of-state students. The University of Mary Washington admitted 81 percent of in-state students and 82 percent of out-of-state students for the 2013-14 academic year, according to Forbes.
