The English, Linguistics, and Communications department should offer technical writing courses, or technical communication, to further expand course options tailored towards professional writing.

For the fall 2016 semester the biology department, along with the English, Linguistics and Communication department, will be welcoming in new faculty members. The biology department will be welcoming Dr. Bradley Lamphere, a specialist in fish ecology and evolutionary biology. The ELC department will be gaining an assistant professor, Laura Bylenok who will be teaching creative writing courses.

Since 2005, the University of Mary Washington has gathered with faculty to share ideas, known as the Social Research Colloquium. The group organizes monthly meetings for faculty to meet, discuss and present their research to one another. Topics presented are meant to expand the arts, social sciences, humanities and business education.

Claudia Emerson, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and former professor at the University of Mary Washington, died today at the age of 57 due to complications related to cancer.
