When you are a first generation student, you may feel some added pressure other students do not experience. Being the first in your family is tough, and the expectations weigh heavily. You have to stay on top of things. You have more responsibilities.

Nearly 70 percent of the students here at UMW are between 18 and 21 years old, which is considered the “normal” age range for undergraduates. 17 percent of students follow closely behind at 22-24. The remaining 13 percent of students are outside of that range, including myself.

Holiday traditions not only provide a festive atmosphere for people, but also build a community around them.
