Group projects can teach great skills, while also being problematic

At UMW, group projects are incorporated in almost every class, and at some point or another every student has had to participate in a group project. We are told that class group projects will help us in the future and prepare us for the “real world.” Working with people in certain scenarios is a good idea in some cases because it helps us discover fresh ideas and you can get many points of view on a certain topic or subject matter. At the same time, while in school, working in group projects can be very stressful and can bring down your grade.Read More

Faculty members show talent at studio art exhibition

At the UMW Studio Art Facility Exhibition, recently in DuPont Gallery, there were pieces shown featuring art by Deb Balestreri, Carole Garmon, Larry Hinkle, Rosemary Jesionowski, and many others​. Their pieces didn’t follow a theme but I was able to pick up patterns that displayed similar techniques to the extent that I could tell it was by the same artist.Read More

Men and Women’s Cross Country both ranked fourth in CAC preseason poll

This season Mary Washington’s Men and Women’s Cross Country teams have both placed fourth again in the Capital Athletic Conference preseason polls. Mary Washington Women’s team assumed the fourth spot in the poll with 58 points and the Men’s team found themselves in fourth with 56 points.Read More
