Virginia gubernatorial candidate, Tom Perriello, visited the University of Mary Washington last Wednesday while on his college campus tour. He talked to students and faculty members in the Hurley Convergence Center about his policies on mental health issues, his proposal for free education at two-year community colleges, promoting an environmentally friendly Virginia and combatting sexual assault.

Sarah Hansen, UMW’s Young Democrats President, still remembers the moment she realized that it was Donald Trump’s column that lit up on the news channel in November during general election. She felt worried and fearful especially, after months of promoting Hillary Clinton’s campaign with fellow members of the Young Dems. She was dispirited by Trump’s unprecedented victory.

Seacobeck Hall has been an integral part of the University of Mary Washington since its doors opened in 1931. As UMW’s primary dining hall, generations of students have passed through its doors, and it is home to countless fond memories for thousands of students. For the past year, however, it has remained desolate with no students or faculty using its facilities.
