The University of Mary Washington men’s soccer team has had an amazing start to their 2017 season. Senior goalkeeper, Matt Spencer from Stafford, VA, has also had an incredible season thus far. Spencer talked about his background and how his collegiate soccer career started. Spencer’s parents taught him how to play soccer when he was just 5 years-old.
The University of Mary Washington hosted its annual UMW Classic Women’s soccer tournament this past weekend and both games were very heated as Mary Washington defended against two very skilled visiting teams.

Sitting under the lights at the Campus Rec Field, you can see fans lined up along the sidelines screaming and cheering. You can hear one University of Mary Washington student consistently screaming “Randolph Bacon,” to get in the heads of the UMW opponent, Randolph-Macon College.

From Sept. 15 through Oct. 8, the University of Mary Washington will be holding its annual Latino Identities Month to celebrate Latino culture and heritage. This year, the organizers are trying to expand the activities so as to reach an even wider audience.

Put the women’s soccer team down as another University of Mary Washington team off to a great start. This season, the Lady Eagles found themselves in the top 25 of national rankings after a 6-1-1 start to their season.

As the summer culminates and the fall semester begins, the University of Mary Washington men’s soccer team is preparing for another exciting season of play. Last year, the team finished with an overall record of 12 wins and seven losses. This record placed them fourth in the Capital Athletic Conference at the end of the season.
For University of Mary Washington senior David Heller, playing a sport seems to be in his genes.
Complete with hundreds of students and alumni lined up to tailgate and support their efforts, five University of Mary Washington athletic teams battled to take home wins at this year’s Homecoming showdown on Saturday.
The chant “Beat the Bobcats” will be heard all day Saturday as conference rival Frostburg State comes to the Battleground to take on University of Mary Washington’s field hockey and soccer teams. Eagle Nation will be in full force for the 2013 homecoming festivities, which this year features all-day tailgating to take the homecoming celebration to a new level.

The University of Mary Washington women’s soccer team is now 2-3 in their fall season after falling to Washington & Lee on Sunday, and to Messiah University on Wednesday, each game ending with a 2-1 final score.
