UMW men’s rugby

Last weekend Mary Washington athletics hosted various teams for their 2017 Homecoming. Unfortunately, the tailgate was about all the UMW students, faculty, and alum could enjoy, as a majority of UMW’s teams lost their Homecoming games. Volleyball and men’s rugby were the only two teams that played that topped their opponents in front of the home crowd.

When choosing a club sport in college, students consider the risk of injury risk in the sport. The risk, usually, is not a deterring factor. However, many student athletes or club members do not take into account how easily their life can be altered by a sport related injury.

Over the weekend, the men and women rugby programs concluded their seasons. For the men’s team, the season started with the addition of two new coaches, Hennie van Zyl and Augustin Oulton. For the women’s team, they were cautiously optimistic after losing the conference finals in the fall.
