Giant Productions announced Tuesday the bands to perform at the University of Mary Washington’s homecoming. As part of the Campus Consciousness tour, Giant booked Grouplove, The Knocks and Saints of Valory to perform at the Anderson Center on Oct. 26.
Bands booked by Giant in recent years include Matt & Kim, Passion Pit and Icona Pop. In 2012, when Giant booked fun. students were able to attend the concert for free, mere months before fun. went on to sell out the Verizon Center.
“I think this concert will live up to the high expectations the students have because the bands that are coming are all high energy and play music the students will enjoy,” said senior Jenna Randall, the president of Giant Productions. “The tour also promotes being green on campus, which is a big part of what we’re about at Mary Washington,” Randall said.
Grouplove, the headliner of the event, is releasing their new album “Spreading Rumours” on Sept. 17. The band, based out of California are known for their 2011 hit “Tongue Tied.”
However, some students feel that Giant let them down with last year’s Homecoming show, when artist David Garibaldi performed. Garibaldi, who made his fame on the TV show America’s Got Talent, paints large pictures in time to music.
“I think this concert will be great,” said junior biology major Margot Jelinek. “At least it will probably be better than the artist,” Jelinek added.
